He was born in Brookville, L. I., on December 30, 1817. In 1836 he moved to Brooklyn, where he figured conspicuously in politics. Mr. Cashow served for five years as Alderman, and as Harbormaster of the Port of New York during the administration of three Governors. Before the campaign of 1878 he worked for the Republican party, but became a Democrat before election. Mr. Cashow was Supervisor of Oyster Bay for three years.[19].
