Q: What is the Darwin's role in the history of 3D printing?

A: The Darwin is significant for being the first 3D printer model released by the RepRap project, serving as the foundation for the open-source self-replicating manufacturing movement.

Q: How is the Darwin licensed?

A: The Darwin is released under the GNU General Public License, which ensures the design remains free and open for users to modify and redistribute.

Q: What is the relationship between the Darwin and subsequent RepRap models?

A: As the inaugural model, the Darwin established the design lineage that led to later RepRap iterations, such as the Mendel, Huxley, and Prusa series.

Q: Why is the printer called Darwin?

A: The printer is named after Charles Darwin, reflecting the RepRap project's theme of evolution and continuous adaptation in hardware design.
