## Summary

Yuri Orlov was born on August 13, 1924, in Moscow[1][2][3] and died on September 27, 2020, in Ithaca[4][5]. He worked as a nuclear physicist, human rights defender, and university teacher. He received his education from the MSU Faculty of Physics, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics.Throughout his career, his employers included the Institute for Theoretical and Experimental Physics from 1953 to 1956, the Yerevan Physics Institute from 1956 to 1972, IZMIRAN from 1972 to 1973, and Cornell University[6]. He was a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, the National Academy of Sciences of Armenia, and the American Physical Society[7][8][9].His awards included the Carter–Menil Human Rights Prize, the European Human Rights Prize, the Andrei Sakharov Prize, the Order of the Patriotic War, 2nd class, and the Carter–Menil Human Rights Prize plus two more[10][11]. He was also named a Fellow of the American Physical Society[10][11].
