Neil MacGregor was born June 16, 1946, in Glasgow.[1][2] He has citizenship of the United Kingdom. He is an art historian, non-fiction writer, and podcaster.[3]He was educated at the University of Edinburgh, École Normale Supérieure, Courtauld Institute of Art, and New College. His employers include the National Gallery and the University of Reading. He held a position as a museum director from 2002 to 2015.[4]His awards include the Order of Merit, Honorary Officer of the Order of Australia, Goethe Medal, Friedrich Gundolf Prize, German National Prize, and a doctor honoris causa from the Paris-Sorbonne University, plus 2 more.[5][6][7][8][9][10] He is a member of the Faculty of Advocates and the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
