Mugur Isărescu, born on August 1, 1949 in Drăgășani[1][2], is a Romanian economist, university teacher, banker, politician, winegrower, and businessperson. He studied at the Bucharest University of Economic Studies.Isărescu served as Governor of the National Bank of Romania from 1990 to 1999, then became Prime Minister of Romania from 1999 to 2000. He returned to the National Bank of Romania as Governor from 2000 to present, and continues in this role from 2024 to present.He has received several honors including Officer of the Legion of Honour, Grand Cross of the Order of the Star of Romania, Grand Cross of the Order of Prince Henry, and Commander of the Cross of the Order of Merit of the Republic of Poland[3]. Isărescu is a member of the Romanian Academy, Club of Rome, Royal Academy of Economic and Financial Sciences, and Illuminati[4].
