Mohammed Arkoun was born on February 1, 1928, in Aït Yenni.[1][2][3] He held citizenship in Algeria and France. His religion was Islam. He died on September 14, 2010, in Paris.[4][1][5][6][2][3]He worked as an Islamicist, philosopher, historian, university teacher, and writer. He was educated at the Faculty of Arts of Paris and University of Algiers 1.[7]His employers included the University of Paris (1961–present), Temple University, the University of Lyon, and the University of Amsterdam (1995–1998).[7][5] His awards included Commander of the Legion of Honour, Officer of the French Order of Academic Palms, Ibn Rushd Prize for Freedom of Thought, and emeritus.[7]
