## Summary

Ernst Steinmann was born on September 4, 1866 in Jördenstorf[1][2] and died on November 23, 1934 in Basel[2]. He held citizenship of the Grand Duchy of Mecklenburg-Strelitz and the German Reich[1][2]. His father was Adolf Steinmann[2] and he married Olga Steinmann in 1901[2].Steinmann pursued higher education at the University of Tübingen, University of Rostock, and Leipzig University[1][2]. He worked as an art historian, university teacher, and art writer[2], specializing in the Italian Renaissance and Michelangelo[2]. His professional career included positions at Leipzig University from 1891 onward[2], Staatliches Museum Schwerin from 1903 to 1911[2], and Bibliotheca Hertziana – Max Planck Institute for Art History from 1913 to 1934[2]. He also served as a museum director[2].He received several honors including the Order of the Red Eagle 4th Class, Order of St. Sylvester, and Order of the Wendish Crown[2]. Steinmann was a member of the Kaiser Wilhelm Society, Accademia di Belle Arti di Perugia, and Accademia di San Luca[2].
