[4][2][3] He was a citizen of the United States. [5]Mills earned his education at the University of Toronto and the University of the West Indies. [6][7][3] His academic career included positions at Northwestern University, University of Illinois Chicago, University of Oklahoma, and City University of New York. [3][8] His fields of study were political philosophy, social philosophy, and race. [9]He was recognized as a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences.
