Andreu Mas-Colell is a Spanish economist, politician, and university teacher born on June 29, 1944 in Barcelona [1][2]. He studied at the University of Barcelona, University of Valladolid, and University of Minnesota . His career in academia included positions at Harvard University, University of California, Berkeley, and Pompeu Fabra University, with a tenure at Harvard University Department of Economics from 1981 to 1996 [3]. In politics, he served as Member of the Parliament of Catalonia from 1999 to 2000, Minister of Universities, Research and the Information Society from 2000 to 2003, and Minister of Economy and Knowledge of Catalonia from 2010 to 2016 [4][5][6]. He was elected Academic of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences in 2007 [4][5][6]. His contributions to economics have been recognized with a Guggenheim Fellowship, Fisher-Schultz Lecture, honorary degree of HEC Paris, King of Spain Prize in Economics, and he is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and the Econometric Society [7][8]. He is also a member of the Royal Academy of Moral and Political Sciences, Academia Europaea, National Academy of Sciences, and European Academy of Sciences and Arts [9].
