Aleksandr Samarsky was born on February 19, 1919, in Svystuny [1][2]. He died on February 11, 2008, in Moscow [2]. His citizenship included the Soviet Union and Russia . He worked as a mathematician and university teacher [3]. His education took place at the Chekhov Gymnasium, MSU Faculty of Physics, and Lomonosov Moscow State University [2][4].Samarsky served in the 8th Rifle Division in 1941 [2]. He was employed by the Keldysh Institute of Applied Mathematics from 1953 to 1982 [2]. Starting in 1948, he worked at Lomonosov Moscow State University, where he also served at the MSU Faculty of Computational Mathematics and Cybernetics from 1982 to 1986 [2]. His fields of study included mathematical physics, computational mathematics, numerical analysis, and mathematical modelling .His awards included the Stalin Prize, USSR State Prize, Medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941–1945", Order of Lenin, Hero of Socialist Labour, and Order of the October Revolution, plus two more [2]. He was a member of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the German Academy of Sciences at Berlin [5]. He was buried at Troyekurovskoye cemetery [6].
